What Happens in Disney
One thing about working for Disney is that you don’t get a lot of time off, which for me means I don’t get to go home for five months; but a good thing about working for Disney is that everyone wants to come visit! My mom and River came in mid-March for River’s spring break and her 13th birthday trip, and last weekend I had my second pair of visitors come to Disney. Riley and Chesney, my roommates from Hattiesburg, came down for Easter weekend!
Riley had been planning on coming down since the middle of last semester. Panic! At the Disco released their tour line up and as soon as we saw Orlando on the list we knew we had to go! Her mom, who lives in Orlando, bought four tickets for Riley and I, her sister Robin, and a friend (thanks mom!) I was ecstatic, not only would I get to see one of my best friends, but I would get to see my favorite band again. About two weeks before the concert I was texting Riley and Chesney about the weekend and remembered I had three complimentary tickets that needed to be used before I left the program. “CHESNEY YOU HAVE TO COME TO ORLANDO WITH RILEY!” Once I said that it was done. Chesney and Riley would leave on Thursday, drive to Orlando and we would spend the weekend together.
Friday I drove over to Port Orange where everyone was staying. I opened the door and was immediately greeted with excitement and love . . . from the dogs! After a moment everyone realized I had arrived and came out to greet me with lots of hugs! We had planned a beach day before the concert that night, so we put our bathing suits on and drove the few minutes to the coast. I hadn’t been to the Atlantic side of Florida since moving here and had forgotten how big the waves get. Wave jumping and swimming was the most fun I’ve had at a beach in a while. After exhausting ourselves in the tide we relaxed on the shore for a bit before heading over to Boondocks Restaurant to eat a late lunch. It was outside and the atmosphere was perfect. We watched birds, including someone’s pet parakeet, a dog, and a couple hundred catfish we fed our leftovers.
After lunch we went back to the house to shower and get ready for the concert. Once back in Orlando we made our way into the venue, the tickets were in different sections, two on one side and two on the other. We each went to our respective sections and after seeing that there were extra seats beside Robin and I, we invited Chesney and Riley to come sit beside us. Luckily if anyone had tickets for those seats they never showed up! The two opening bands were Saint Motel and MisterWives. Saint Motel was really good, I enjoyed their music, but I adored MisterWives. They were fabulous, they put on an amazing and fun show and I downloaded their music a couple nights later.
Before Panic! even came on stage they had us all going crazy. They put a countdown on the screens and once they ran on stage the entire night was filled with throwbacks and classics and covers and new songs and emotions. We went home that night happy, satisfied, and ready to sleep.
Saturday morning we slept in. When we finally woke up and got ready we headed over to Hollywood Studios to start the day! We did a couple rides like Tower of Terror, met Chewie and a couple other characters, and ate lunch before making our way to Magic Kingdom for the rest of the evening. At Magic Kingdom we got Pixie Dusted, took lots of pictures, and rode couple of different rides. While we were waiting in line for Under the Sea, I checked Be Our Guest, the Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant for reservations. There was one open for four guests at 9:10 that night! We couldn’t believe it! Be Our Guest was more magical than I could have dreamed. We treated ourselves and had steak and veggies, and for desert we had The Grey Stuff (it was delicious). At some point during our meal Robin took one for the team and got root beer split on her by our waiter, as an apology he gave us a fast pass for any ride we chose. Once we finished eating we went into the study to meet the master of the castle himself, The Beast. He was extremely charming and the experience allowed me to mark another Prince off my list.
After dinner we ran over to Princess Fairytale Hall to meet Rapunzel. This was Chesney’s one request of the day, since that’s her favorite princess. Watching the two of them interact as adorable. Once we talked to Rapunzel about Flynn and asked Tiana about some New Orleans style food we sprinted to Tomorrowland to catch a ride on Space Mountain. When we came back from the galaxies there was only about seven minutes left until park close. We decided to sprint over to Seven Dwarves Mine Train and use Robin’s fast pass, making it just in time to be the last people in line.
We drove home and the next morning was Easter! When we woke up it was already mid-morning, and Misty had planned an Easter egg hunt for us, so in our bare feet and pajamas we ran around collecting our colorful eggs. At about one we got ready for the day and Chesney and Riley packed up for their long drive home. Saying goodbye was difficult, but the next time we are all together we will be roommates again!
